Bristol in a Box

Sky Siouki and Blaze Bristol

Instagram is a real treasure trove of talented artists and makers and over the last few months, I've crossed the creative paths of many but recently, I've been really impressed by Bristol based painter and illustrator Sky Siouki.

Inspired by nature, Sky creates the most intricate hand-drawn illustrations added to warm and dreamy painted backgrounds. Wanting to see her lovely work in the flesh, I headed off to the Blaze shop on Colston Street.

Her current collection explores the beauty of birds and for the Muse exhibition, where a number of local artists explore the theme of femininity, Sky has created the most stunning drawing of a female Goshawk (bird of prey). You can see more about the exhibition on the Blaze Facebook event page.

Visiting the shop with my daughter and other half for the first time last week, we were impressed by how much talent the place contains.

Beautiful ceramic work by Eska Marsh, funny cards by Snippetart, gorgeous leafy enamel designs by Ashleigh Proud, intriguing abstract art by Veronia Gayle, colourful giclée prints and cards by Rosie Webb, cute skull pins and tiny people scenes by Lucie Roberts, lovely pressed flower frames by Niki at Palyglass, and wanderlust provoking illustrations by Hattie Buckwell to name a few.

I purchased one of Sky Siouski's beautiful owl coasters, and a boat in a bottle illustration by Laura Robertson, while my little one, after much deliberation, settled on two pairs of earrings by Irene Castellanos from Tejetramas, and some lovely badges.

A visit to Blaze Bristol is definitely a must for any handmade lover, or anyone looking for unique gifts. With the Muse exhibition coming to an end this Tuesday, there is no time to waste!
