Ashton Court circular walk in pictures

This bank holiday weekend, on top of taking part in the Virtual Clevedon Sunday Market, and gorging myself on chocolate, I also ticked a new walk off my bucket list: the Ashton Court to Long Ashton circular route. Armed with my faithful walking boots and my trusty camera, I knew there would be some new spots for my other half and I to discover. We decided to add a few more miles to the route by starting at Leigh Woods, from the cycle path to be more precise.   After climbing up to Leigh Woods where we stopped for a well earned sandwich, we then made our way to the entrance of Ashton Court, a wonderful estate owned by the city....

Badock's Wood in pictures

A few weeks back, my partner and I decided to venture into a new green space that we've never been to before. Located in Southmead, North Bristol, Badock's Wood is a nature reserve that we were keen to discover. We set off from Central Bristol and went through the Downs and Henleaze before reaching the Southmead area. It was a mild day and the first signs of spring could be spotted. With its streams zigzagging among the woodland, it's no wonder why Badocks' Wood is a popular place for locals in need of a breath of fresh air and a good walk. The ancient woodland could date back to 400 years and a Bronze Age burial mound was discovered (see...

Mother's day present ideas at the virtual Clevedon Sunday Market

This weekend, I'm lucky enough to take part in a virtual version of the brilliant Clevedon Sunday Market where you can expect to find lots of Mother's day present ideas. Located by the Severn Estuary, the pretty town of Clevedon is one of my favourite places near Bristol. A visit to its Victorian pier is always a highlight whatever the season, and I've even created a light box with a picture of the pier I took on a glorious evening.    It is unsurprising that many local makers and artists are inspired by the coastal city and its landscape. Before the pandemic, one Sunday a month, a market packed with talented stall holders will ravish its visitors. Among the makers...

Pictures of Bristol | Nothing like a bit of rain

I'm always one for a walk and fresh air but just like for many of us, this lockdown has made my need to stretch my legs and gather pictures of Bristol regularly even more powerful. We're so lucky in Bristol as we're spoilt for choice when it comes to green spaces and woodlands.  However, this time I was only planning to head home after dropping light boxes at the post office. The weather was a classic mix of fog and rain but wearing my bright yellow mac, I was prepared. I suddenly felt the need to see if the Clifton Suspension Bridge was all caught in fog so I could snap a few moody shots. Before long, I ended up in Ashton Court, having been unable to resist...
